When supporting our pupils’ care and movement we encourage our pupils to participate as far as possible and be as independent as they can. For example, to change themselves, feed themselves, keep their heads up for assisted feeding, and push their own wheelchairs.
Some pupils require slings to assist their movement and positioning.
These slings are attached to hoists that lift them slowly and safely from their chairs and allows them to move in comfort. Changes of position and activities include floor based stretches, standing frames, access to hydrotherapy, rebound or adapted bikes.
Pupils are given choices as much as possible when participating in their moving and handling e.g. who to roll to first whilst the second adult fits their sling behind them. They are taught the settings of their slings to allow them to watch that staff are fitting their slings correctly.
Pupil use a range of equipment such as walkers, standers, stools and adapted bikes to promote their physical development.
It is important that our pupils are supported by trained staff. In this way our pupils are safe, and can enjoy a wide range of physical activities.
